Giant eagles are a predatory avian species that resemble large eagles.
Description[]
Giant eagles are large, bestial birds of prey with talons, a sharp beak, and keen eyesight. They have feathered wings that grant them flight, allowing them to fly up to eighty feet in six seconds. Their feathers can be brown and white and their beaks and legs yellow. Noble and intelligent creatures, giant eagles have their own language and understand Common and Auran. A mated pair usually have up to four young in their nest that are about the same size as their smaller counterparts.[1]
Abilities[]
Giant eagles are large-sized, neutral good beasts with an armor class of 13, an average of 26 hit points, a walking speed of 10 feet, and a flying speed of 80 feet. They have proficiency in Perception, a passive Perception of 14, and a challenge rating of 1. They know their own language, Giant Eagle, and understand, but cannot speak, Common and Auran.[1]
Like their smaller counterparts, giant eagles have an ability called Keen Sight, granting them advantage on Perception checks reliant on sight. As far as actions, they have Multiattack, allowing them to make an attack with their beak and talons on the same turn. Individual attacks include Beak, a melee weapon attack that deals piercing damage, and Talons, a melee weapon attack that deals slashing damage.[1]

Eagle[]
Standard eagles are smaller, less powerful, and less intelligent than giant eagles.[3] An adult eagle is the same size as a young giant eagle.[1]
History[]
Tal'Dorei[]
Convocations of giant eagles lived in the mountaintops of the Summit Peaks, a mountain range on Tal'Dorei's Lucidian Coast, among griffons and harpies. They hunted in the surrounding lowlands.
Wildshaping[]
Vox Machina member Keyleth, a half-elven druid of the Air Ashari,[4] frequently Wildshaped into giant eagles as a means of party transportation for herself and the rest of Vox Machina.[5][6]
During their mission to the Underdark to rescue Lady Kima of Vord, Keyleth frequently Wildshaped into a giant eagle. This idea was first proposed by Vax'ildan, who suggested she turn into a giant eagle to assist in full-party transportation to investigate a cave.[7] She turned into an eagle to transport Scanlan Shorthalt and Pike Trickfoot on her back on the party's way to attack on a duergar warcamp.[8] Later, after their attack, she turned into an eagle for a second time to transport the gnomes for their escape, only to get shot down along with the rest of the party.[9]
Polymorphing[]
Campaign One: Vox Machina[]
Scanlan Polymorphed Grog into a giant eagle for transportation purposes several times, specifically to fly to safety when fighting Umbrasyl,[10], to fly to Glintshore,[11], and to escape some Vasselheim guards.[12]
Campaign Two: The Mighty Nein[]
Caleb and Jester occasionally Polymorphed themselves and other party members into giant eagles for transportation purposes, notably to escape dangers within the Folding Halls of Halas[13] and for travel in Eiselcross.[14][15] Doing so helped them unknowingly lose the volstruckers who had been following them.[16]
Trivia[]
Grog was technically more intelligent when in giant eagle form than in his normal goliath form.[17]
