Ghor Dranas ("Gathering of Shadows" in Draconic) was the capital of the Betrayer Gods' alliance and was located in Xhorhas during the Age of Arcanum. It was destroyed in the final battles of the Calamity. The city of Rosohna now stands on the same site.[1]
History[]
During the Schism in the era of the Founding, as Asmodeus was being banished, he made a threat to "gather the shadows" to himself. The dragons who heard this treated the threat with trepidation, and it was still known as a historical detail on the eve of the Calamity.[2]
Ghor Dranas was raised into the seat of the Betrayer Gods the very night they were released by Vespin Chloras. The same night, Asmodeus arrived in the city, while his minions tried to use Avalir to release the Primordials. He proposed to Gruumsh that they assault Vasselheim together,[3] the Dawn City located in Issylra, on the opposite side of the world from Ghor Dranas.[1]
There are indications that the city already existed in some form before the Betrayer Gods' arrival. Great numbers of the dranassar had lived in Ghor Dranas; they are said to have been twisted by the Strife Emperor into the goblinkin to serve him as soldiers.[4]
Ghor Dranas was in constant shadow and was full of barracks and towers for war. At the center of the city sat Virkwzual ("Dark Bastion" in Infernal), the central citadel for the armies of the Betrayer Gods. Beneath the city were tunnels used as prisons and torture chambers by the followers of Torog.[5]
Near the end of the Calamity, the Prime Deities, along with their most loyal champions, laid siege to Ghor Dranas, which was protected by the fortress called the Betrayers' Rise. Followers of the Prime Deities defeated the garrison at the Betrayers' Rise, captured it, and routed the Betrayer Gods' forces there, opening up an advance to the walls of Ghor Dranas. Countless soldiers were involved, as were celestials and fiends. This series of events was collectively remembered as the Battle of the Barbed Fields.[6]

Thus the final battles of the Calamity were waged around Ghor Dranas, and it was in ruins by the time of the Divergence. Over time, a society of drow that worshiped the Luxon surfaced from the Underdark and built the Kryn Dynasty capital, Rosohna, where Ghor Dranas once stood.[5]
