Galeokaerda is a high elf sorcerer who spies for the Consortium of the Vermilion Dream.

Description[]

When encountered in Cael Morrow, Galeokaerda has acquired signs of ruidium corruption on her arms but tries to keep them hidden. She keeps the amulet that controls her shield guardian hidden under her shirt.[4]

At that time, she is on a secret mission (or two) for the Consortium, and frustrated by her limited success to that point. She is suspicious even of people affiliated with the Consortium. She is also quite capable of forming real friendships with people she is spying on.[4]

Biography[]

By the time of the crisis around the Netherdeep in 836 PD, Galeokaerda had long been a spy for the Consortium of the Vermilion Dream and infiltrated the Allegiance of Allsight by posing as an adjunct professor of ancient literature.[5] She became genuine friends with Professor Insight Acuere, leader of the expedition in Cael Morrow,[6] and befriended some other Allegiance excavators as well.[7]

As the crisis began to escalate to a head, Galeokaerda reported back to the Consortium that a rift had been opened to the Netherdeep, but couldn't be opened without a "key", and the Consortium hired diviners who claimed that the Key to the Netherdeep was a greataxe encrusted with ruidium. One of the Consortium's leaders, Master Aradrine, feared that the Allegiance could be growing suspicious of Galeokaerda,[7] and in fact, Allegiance spies learned that the Consortium had infiltrated the excavation site in Cael Morrow and that there was a double agent on the archaeological team. The Allegiance presumed that the spy was helping to find and smuggle ruidium to the Consortium.[8] In the Allegiance's base camp, Professor Acuere only knows that Galeokaerda hadn't been seen for three days, and was concerned but knew she had her shield guardian protecting her.[9]

Meanwhile, another agent of the Consortium had infiltrated Cael Morrow searching for relics. They were in a water-filled royal study chamber in the Royal Library when a giant shark entered through a hole in the roof, and in their panic they dropped a teleportation tablet leading to the Consortium's temporary headquarters, the First Eclipse tavern in the Suncut Bazaar. Galeokaerda can be found searching through the debris of the adjacent royal reading room for the tablet, protected by her shield guardian, Crescent. By this time she has suffered the effects of ruidium corruption, but has kept them hidden.[10] Galeokaerda is also hoping to find the Key to the Netherdeep.[5]

If the player characters (PCs) join the Allegiance, they may be sent to identify and capture or kill the double agent for a substantial reward, but if they don't defeat Galeokaerda soon enough, she disappears along with the Key;[11] if the PCs join the Consortium and don't rendezvous with her quickly enough, Ayo Jabe's adventuring party will have found and killed her for the Allegiance.[12]

If the PCs find her in the royal reading room, she has set up camp there and is exasperated in her search for the tablet, though she knows where the Key to the Netherdeep is. She is suspicious of anyone she doesn't recognize, and her reaction to the PCs depends on whether they are on a mission that involves her. She may tell them to go away, or ask them to prove themselves by finding the tablet. If the PCs detect her ruidium corruption, she tries to explain but then realizes it's useless and attacks. But in general, she would prefer to avoid a fight. If it comes to a fight, Crescent protects her.[1]

Relationships[]

  • Insight Acuere doesn't know that Galeokaerda is a spy, and is concerned for her safety. She and Galeokaerda are friends, and Galeokaerda regrets betraying her. Galeokaerda secretly hopes that when the Consortium takes over Cael Morrow, she can turn Insight against the Allegiance.[6]

Trivia[]

  • The text of Call of the Netherdeep says that, because Galeokaerda is a high elf, her occult extollant statblock should be modified to give her darkvision out to a range of 60 feet, but that is a trait all occult extollants already have.[2]
