Freedom Windsong, formerly known as Freakza the Wrathful,[1] is a goblin doctor from the Hug Hive, and a friend of Poogs. He is played by Sam Riegel.

Description[]

Freedom is a mature goblin with dark green skin, grey hair tied in a ponytail, and pink nails. He wears leather sandals and a "P" symbol that, according to him symbolizes community, sharing, happiness, and a bright future for the community.

While in the past he was a wrathful individual, after his curse was lifted he became relaxed, kind, and carefree.[2]

History[]

He was part of a goblin community in which he acted as a combat medic, having Poogs as his squire. When the latter, who wasn't happy there, ran away, the medic followed him by order of his superior. By the time he found him, the fighter had befriended Timpani Guff and made him a cupcake; when the older goblin saw that, he was moved by the kindess of the gesture, and felt his Curse of Strife lifted. He dedicated his time to spread that story of love and sharing, helping others like him to get rid of the curse, and transforming their community, which became the Hug Hive. He himself decided to take a new name, "Freedom Windsong", to reflect his new nature, although he kept practicing medicine, and creating a place of relaxation for his patients, with hammocks, bar, and yoga and meditation areas.

At some point between 836 and 843 PD,[3] one year after Poogs left, he reappeared with the Re-Slayer's Take, being warmly welcomed by the other goblins, and immediately recognized by Freedom, who greeted him and his new friends. When they asked him for help, since Timpani was sick, the doctor agreed to help, revealing the firbolg suffered from mindfire, an effect of the Contagion spell, and left him with his assistants, assuring the group that with a few hours and the proper ritual, Timpani would be healed. He guided the other members of the party through a tunnel, showing them the Cupcake Monument and telling Poogs how his kindness had helped his entire community (making the fighter cry); he then recommended the adventurers to meditate there for a bit, which granted them a permanent magical boon. Then he guided them back to check on Timpani and eat some vegan stew (he also used some aromatherapy on Frog, believing she didn't eat by choice); before leaving to prepare for the ritual he gave Poogs some slug milk to use on his cupcakes.[4]

Shortly after a powerful psychic attack hit most people in the settlement, even knocking some of the goblins unconscious. Very shaken, and after learning that an army of undead was approaching Hug Hive, Freedom told the adventurers to organize the defense of their home while he focused on completely healing Timpani, reminding them all to stay hopeful. During the battle against the forces of the Timberblight, Freedom stayed in his place with Timpani, and when one of the monsters (a big mushroom-like entity) got too close Farah and Idrin distracted it with sound. The doctor, aware of the dangerous situation, instructed many of the goblins to evacuate and go to the Bad Vibes Bunker. After the fight was over, he came out with Poogs and a completely restored Timpani, and healed the unconscious Frog.[5] After the undead were defeated, Freedom and his people gave the adventurers mounts to leave the mountains, encouraging them in their following adventure and letting them know they were welcome to return (and so was Poogs, to whom the doctor said goodbye personally).[6] Days later he was still taking care of the Hug Hive and when Timpani and Poogs visited to get some slug milk he asked them to say "hi" to the rest of the Re-Slayers when they returned to Vasselheim.[7]
