The Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn is a sourcebook from Darrington Press. It expands on the Critical Role: Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting sourcebook.

Contents[]

Tal'Dorei Reborn is set two decades after the campaign of Vox Machina, in the time of the Mighty Nein's adventures (836 PD).[2][5] Its contents include four new subclasses (for a total of nine) and updates of previous subclasses, as well as over a dozen new magic items, dozens of creatures (with 18 new stat blocks), over a hundred new illustrations and maps, five backgrounds, and the identities of the members of the Tal'Dorei Council. A deluxe edition produced and sold by Beadle & Grimm's features in-world player handouts, battle maps, and a GM screen.[1][2]

Among the new subclasses are: College of Tragedy for bards, Moon Domain for clerics, Circle of the Blighted for druids, and Blood Magic for wizards. The four subclasses published in Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting (Path of the Juggernaut, Blood Domain, Way of the Cobalt Soul, and Runechild) will be republished, and Oath of the Open Sea will be published as well.[3]

Formats[]

The physical book is bundled with a free PDF in the Critical Role shops (US, UK, Canada, and Australia), but in brick-and-mortar stores the book is print-only. At launch, there were no sales of PDF-only products.[2]

In March 2023, a stand-alone PDF version of the book was released through DriveThru RPG. At the same time, a French translation was made available through both DriveThruRPG and the Critical Role EU Shop, and a VTT version was released on Roll20.[4]

In August 2023, the book was released on D&D Beyond, and was the first book not published by Wizards of the Coast to be released there.

As of December 2023 the book is also available in Portuguese, German, Italian, and Spanish, which, including English and French, makes it the most linguistically diverse product in the Darrington Press catalogue, with a total of six different languages.

Trivia[]

  • Originally Genel Jumalon drew all the original characters that represent the nine subclasses of the book in the cover art. However, because of the composition Balthasar Bleakskull, Camellia Springshower, and Karzadrawn Sunscale were left out of the final version.[6]
  • When the Spanish translation of the book was made available some fans noticed that specific terms, such as the name of most deities and idols, weren't translated (e.g. Instead of "Reina Araña" or "Reina de las Arañas", Lolth appears as "la Spider Queen").
    • A member of the translation team, who had also worked with the Spanish translation of the Vox Machina comics (and was, in fact, responsible for creating the Spanish names for the gods, such as "Semperclara" for the Everlight), explained this had been the publisher's decision, which in fact advocated keeping many proper nouns and terms in English. Although the translation team managed to convince them that certain place names had to be adapted to the new language, the names of the deities remained unchanged.[7]
