Captain Bentley Badger is a former British cavalry soldier now employed as Rupert Merriweather's butler in the "Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Crystal Palace" (Sx46) one-shot. He was played by Travis Willingham.

Bentley is overall a grounded and steadfast individual. He shows loyalty to Merriweather, and determination in finding the casket. Despite his insistence that ghosts do not exist, he is obviously anxious discussing it. When Alexandra points out that a non-believer should have nothing to fear, he agrees, but is clearly still nervous. He also displays an obvious discomfort around cats.

Hanako Hayashi[]
Bentley keeps his knowledge of Merriweather blackmailing Hanako over the theft of a necklace discrete, which she expresses appreciation for. There is a degree of sexual tension between them and after the events of the night she expessed interest in seeing him when there weren't supernatural threats around.
Rupert Merriweather[]
Mr. Merriweather is Bentley's employer. Bentley is insistent upon completing his task, and states that he owes Merriweather a great deal. He fears the consequences of failing him.

- Taliesin's described his inspiration for Bentley's character on the Critical Role blog as follows: "Every crime needs a mastermind to keep everyone on task, especially with so many new Call of Cthulhu players with so many individual objectives. I needed someone whose mission was to keep everyone mostly focused and on track. I also needed someone who knew most of the groups secrets for leverage in case any arguments popped up. I gave Travis (mostly) complete dossiers on each character, including the option to ask me for any information on any character that he may conceivably have access to during the game. The build for the character was a classical John Watson jack-of-all-trades Afghan War vet (because I always like to quietly point out how insane it is that I can make an Afghan War vet in nearly any time since the fucking industrial revolution). I also made him a member of the Guides Calvary (because who doesn’t want to ride a bloody horses into battle?). Travis requested the sword cane, and so I gave it to him with a mild war injury [for game balance]."
