Fairy-lure mantraps are carnivorous plants that are similar to mantraps.
Description[]
Usually imitating a small tree,[1] a fully grown fairy-lure mantrap is a massive 15-foot tall[2] twisting mass of vines and roots that tighten and pull across each other. It has a mane of blood-colored leaves and tattered underbrush that looks like a lion's mane around its heavily toothed, open, beak-like mouth. It is eyeless with small vines that wrap and whip.[3]
Abilities[]
The fairy-lure mantrap has an attack bonus of 8,[4] and resistance to poison damage,[5] but is vulnerable to fire damage.[6]
- False Appearance: When the plant-based creature is motionless, it is indistinguishable from a regular tree.[7]
- Lure (regrow lure on 5-6):[8] A small, faintly glimmering illusory fairy is attached to the end of one of the creature's vines.[9]
- Light Pulse: As an action, the lure starts to pulse with a bright glow, forcing targets in its vicinity to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, the target must immediately move half their movement toward the mantrap, and is incapacitated until the end of the mantrap’s next turn or when the target takes damage.[10]
- Hungry Jaws: If the vine creature hits with its bite attack,[11] it swallows one target.[12] A swallowed creature is restrained, has total cover against attacks and other effects outside the plant creature, and takes acid damage at the start of each of the mantrap's turns.[13] If the vine plant takes enough damage on a single turn from inside itself, it must succeed on a Constitution saving throw at the end of that turn or regurgitate all swallowed creatures.[14]
- When the fairy-lure mantrap's heart is intact, the creature slowly regenerates.[15]
- Multiattack: the plant creature can make three vine attacks with a 15-foot range dealing bludgeoning damage[16] or make one bite attack dealing piercing damage.

History[]
On their journey through the Oderan Wilds from Jrusar to Heartmoor Hamlet, Bells Hells camped for the night just off the safety of the Honored Trails. They were enticed into the jungle by a fairy-lure mantrap,[19] but eventually defeated the creature, set it aflame, and crushed its heart, turning all the tethers to a grayish color and making all its extremities go lax.[20]
