Faerie dragons are tiny mischievous dragons of the Feywild.[1]

Faerie dragons look like cat-sized dragons with butterfly wings, prehensile tails with a vestigial sting and sharp teeth that they usually show by grinning. Their coloration changes with time, being red when they are born, and going through all the colors of the rainbow until they achieve the purple.[2]

Abilities[]

Faerie dragons have resistance to magical effects, and a natural talent to become invisible. They also have telepathic abilities to communicate with other faerie dragons that are nearby. They are able to fly, and if they feel threatened, they can bite or use their breath weapon: a puff of euphoria gas that overwhelms whoever breathes it, preventing them from attacking normally.[2]

Faerie dragons are natural spellcasters, and the older they get, the longer the spell list they know is.[2] When they are in their lairs they are able to alter plant growth and air currents to defend themselves against their enemies.[3] Additionally, the most powerful of them magically influence their territory, slowing down or speeding up the passage of time, and affecting the behavior of those who live there, making them more likely to commit mischief and leave offerings to their faerie dragon neighbor.[4]

Known faerie dragons[]

In Syrinlya, in Eiselcross, lives a green faerie dragon called Dew. He is the familiar of a mysterious high elf mage who calls themselves "The Buyer" and purchases Aeorian relics in the region for the Uthodurnian government. Dew seems to like The Buyer, being comfortable enough with them to rest on their lap.[5]

Trivia[]

  • Sometimes the bite of a faerie dragon can end a fey curse.[6]
  • While not as commonly as their pseudodragon cousins, some faerie dragons can become familiars of spellcasters of their liking.[5]
