Evon Hytroga is the proprietor of the Twilight Mirror Museum. As an NPC, Evon Hytroga is played by Matthew Mercer.
Description[]
Appearance[]
Evon is an older male half-elf. He is tall and very thin, and is described as "spider-like".[4] When Bells Hells first met him, he wore a red and gold mantle with a raised area behind his neck that came to points past his shoulders.[5] Below the mantle, he wore a silver robe and a considerable amount of jewelry. His hair was worn in well-kept sideburns which were going gray, and he had a pencil mustache extending down into a thin horseshoe mustache. His eyebrows were thick and pointed up at the outer edges.[6]
Personality[]
Evon has a very dramatic personality.[7]
Biography[]
Background[]
Evon claimed to have spent most of his youth with the Wanderman Assembly, where he earned his fortune, and then spent seven years studying under Prefect Thoshai in Vasselheim. He also claimed to have been a close personal friend of Uriel Tal'Dorei III and to have been present when Uriel died.[8]
Evon Hytroga owned and ran the Twilight Mirror Museum, an "oddities collection"[9] in Heartmoor Hamlet. At some point he developed a rivalry with Jiana Hexum,[1] and since the failed break-in of Hexum Manor by the Nobodies, had bragged about his highly advanced security.[10] Jiana challenged him to a wager: that if she could hire a team to successfully breach his security measures and steal an item of his choosing from the museum, she would win, and he would attempt the same against her manor.[11]
Campaign Three: Bells Hells[]
Bells Hells, upon arriving in Heartmoor Hamlet, went to the Twilight Mirror Museum to report that they were there and to begin scoping it out. Evon met them, but would not permit them into the building as that would be against the rules he had set for the challenge, and told them to come back the following night at midnight for the competition.[12] He also expressed interest in purchasing Fresh Cut Grass.[13]
The party then showed up the next night at the appropriate time, as did their rivals, The Verdict. Evon provided them with the rules of the challenge and resisted their repeated efforts to give them more information.[14]
The museum revealed Evon to be somewhat self-obsessed,[15] and Bells Hells, notably Ashton Greymoore, found Evon's claim that his security systems were non-fatal to be misleading at best.[16] Before leaving the museum, Ashton broke into a locked drawer in Evon's room and stole some papers as well as a pair of glasses.[17] When the party exited, Evon willingly proclaimed them the winners after joking that he should have his guards kill the party.[18] As a reward to the party, he magically took a picture of Bells Hells and hung it in the foyer among the pictures of himself.[19]
Bells Hells quickly discovered that the alleged journal of Vespin Chloras was a forgery made by Evon,[20], and the documents Ashton stole revealed that Evon had acquired some items through illegal channels, notably Spireling Shenn of the Clasp, and that he had commissioned several other pieces that he passed off as genuine artifacts.[21]
Several weeks later after the apogee solstice, Bells Hells visited Ruidus and encountered Evon as a member of the Ruby Vanguard, learning that he had been traveling with a caravan of supplies and was extremely uncomfortable due to the lack of creature comforts. He recognized the adventurers and spoke to them cordially, which made his companions (a Reiloran Juggernaut and a mysterious pale elf) less suspicious about them when the party proposed joining their caravan (something they ended up not doing). Evon was particularly eager to spend time with them and get his hands on any Exandrian items they had.[22]
Relationships[]
Jiana was Evon's rival, and she was willing to pay Bells Hells an additional 3,500 gold should they not only steal the item but also humiliate him.[23]
