Evithorir the Taker was a dark fey creature entity once sealed beneath Cofferfall Hill in Issylra. As an NPC, Evithorir is played by Matthew Mercer.

Description[]

Evithorir is a creature of shadows, appearing as a massive column with a grinning face at its tip. The face is pale gray and pointed, pulled tight against what would be cheekbones, with sunken sockets holding palely glowing blue eyes. They have elongated, crooked and cracked teeth meeting at the center. From the shadowy, hooded depths of their form, the smiling face emerges like a mask from the front that they were able to move through their whole body. In their vicinity, the air seems to grow colder.[4]

Biography[]

Background[]

A long time ago Evithorir acted in Issylra as a thief of essence and natural magic. They became the enemy of Oma-Dua, a powerful Gau Drashari who fought against them and eventually managed to seal them beneath the rock of Cofferfall Hill, although she was weakened by the Taker's mortal curse which would affect her for the rest of her days.[5]

Centuries later, in 843 PD, the powerful magic of the apogee solstice disturbed the enchantment in Evithorir's imprisonment, freeing them.[6] They traveled to the shrine of the Emerald Tree in the Irriam Canyon, attracted by the power of their old enemy; there, they killed three of the local guardians (Ennorai, Oldaan and Keese), leaving only their bones, and consumed the archdruid Hevestro.[7]

Campaign Three: Bells Hells[]

When Bells Hells visited the shrine, Orym noticed Evithorir's face in the ceiling,[8] and the fey acted aggressively and was surly towards them because of the intrusion. They claimed the place as theirs, although also showing interest in the "potential" of the newcomers. After a brief attempt at negotiation, the adventurers confronted the entity, which attacked them with magic and spears made of pure shadow while using two red orbs to assist them in battle.[9]

Bells Hells soon discovered that Hevestro was still inside the Taker's immaterial body, so they managed to separate them to focus on defeating the dark fey.[10] It was Laudna, matching Evithorir's shadowy guise, who delivered the final blow, destroying their quasi-physical form and absorbing the entity's necrotic remains.[11]

Appearances and mentions[]

Quotations[]

  • (about the Apogee Solstice): "Whatever happened, it freed me. I have no interest, for now, in leaving. I'm home, and you are intruding."[25]}
  • (to Laudna) "Game recognizes game."[26]

Trivia[]

  • Just before Bells Hells started fighting Evithorir, roots started growing to block the exit.[27] It is possible that, due to the Taker's nature, they were draining part of Hevestro's power in order to manipulate nature around them.
  • Dynios likes their style.
  • Given their affinity to shadows, it is possible that they have a connection to the Shadowfell.
