Emoth Kade (pronounced /ˈiːmɒθ ˈkæd/)[4] is a half-elf noblewoman of Jrusar. As an NPC, Emoth Kade is played by Matthew Mercer.

Emoth is pale and very thin. Her hair is dark and very curly and voluminous. When she first appeared, she wore a long gray dress with a train.[1]

After the transformation, her body lost some reproductive features, and breathing holes opened in her back and her shoulders.[5]

Background[]

Emoth is an apprentice in the gold guild controlled by House Treshi.[6] Her origin house, House Kade, is a very minor Mahaan house new to Jrusar, coming from the Stratos Throne after the Apex War. They formerly dealt in cattle but have moved away from that and are looking to make inroads into the Jrusar social and business structure.[7]

"A Dance of Deception" (3x13)[]

Lady Emoth Kade came to the ball as Armand Treshi's date, but the two immediately parted ways upon entering. Ashton attempted to speak with her early into the party, but she mostly brushed him off. She later met with Cyrus Wyvernwind, who had told Chetney that she had previously worked with the Hubatt Corsairs and was going to help him steal some items to start paying off his debts. Later, Chetney noticed her enter a back room, and attempted to follow. He noticed she had a moldy smell. When he investigated further, he saw her commanding a group of shade creepers to steal items, and observed that she was sweating and that her own eyes had gone black to match theirs.

After the party notified two guards that something amiss was happening in the back rooms, they heard a commotion from those rooms. Fresh Cut Grass urged the party to investigate, at which point they found Emoth Kade on the ceiling. Combat ensued, during which she revealed herself to have many of the same abilities as Dugger. She was badly wounded in the fight, but was able to escape down one of the small holes in the wall, after muttering that "she" could help. Later, Cyrus revealed that Lady Kade had offered him the job on the grounds that he could make money by stealing items to humiliate the members of lower Mahaan houses. He also said, when asked, that he thought her business partner was her mother, as she'd referenced someone by the name of "Mother."

"The Tunnels Below" (3x15)[]

The party traveled into a very deep mine shaft, fighting off shade creepers. Chetney cast Invisibility on himself to distract Lady Kade for a full-party assault, then to discover where she fled. He found her conferencing a 60-foot sluglike mass of pulsing flesh from which a drawn-out humanoid torso with four 10- to 12-foot long arms emerged. She turned around to face the invisible Chetney and said, "Mother, we have visitors."

"The Shade Mother" (3x16)[]

Bells Hells and the Green Seekers battled Emoth, and Chetney captured her in the amber orb capsules provided to him by Olly. Imogen later cast Detect Thoughts on the captured Emoth and sensed "feral anger"[8] and a strong devotion to the Shade Mother. Imogen told the party that she believed that Emoth's sense of humanity and self apart from the Shade Mother was permanently lost. Once they left the mines, the Green Seekers took Emoth, still in the sphere, to the Chandei Quorum as part of their investigation.

  • Light Sensitivity: While in bright light, Emoth has disadvantage on attack rolls.[10]
  • Multiattack: Emoth makes two claw attacks, which deal slashing and necrotic damage.[11]
  • Poison spittle: Creatures within a line must make a Dexterity saving throw against poison damage.[12]
  • Cunning Action: Emoth can take the dash, disengage, or hide actions as a bonus action.[13]
  • Slippery Dash: When an attack misses her, she can use her reaction to move up to her speed without provoking opportunity attacks.[14]
