Elric Tavelle was the eldest son of a family of performers of the Greying Wildlands, and the older brother of Lucien Tavelle.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The last memories Lucien had of him were of Elric stiff and ever-smiling, with jet-black eyes[2] that twinkled eyes like beads, always followed by the smell of new shoes.[3]
Personality[]
Elric was a cheerful and helpful boy with a good memory, enthusiastic about his work.[4]
Biography[]
Elric was born at some point before 810 PD[5] as the first son of a married couple of the Greying Wildlands. He had an younger brother, Lucien, and a younger sister, Aldreda. Their parents were artists who usually played music while their children danced, sang or performed plays; Elric was the best performer of all of them, he always remembered his line, and was generally seen as the favorite.[6] However, he had abusive parents who, despite their predilection for him, harshly punishing him when they were disappointed in him, being his younger siblings who consoled him,[7] while they tried to protect themselves from their patents' wrath.[8]

Things got worse after Elric was killed due to a family debt with the Jagentoth family: Lucien's parents, obsessed with getting their favorite child and best performer back, kept his body in the snow until they decided to bring him to a witch in the Savalirwood, Azrahari, who turned Elric's corpse into a strange puppet that his parents kept around. The puppet moved and even spoke in a wooden way,[9] and although it made the parents smile again, it horrified Lucien and Aldreda (who called the puppet "Sock Brother"), especially since the body wasn't completely immune to decay and never slept,[10] which made it all the scarier.[11] At some point Lucien couldn't stay there any longer, so he burned down the caravan with his parents and the puppet inside, and he left with Aldreda.[12]
Between 831 and 833 PD Lucien still remembered Elric fondly,[13] but he kept a very bad memory of Sock Brother, causing a dislike for puppets in general.[14]

Trivia[]
- His name seems to be a variation of Elrig, which comes from Eileirg, meaning "the deer run" in Scottish Gaelic. It could also derive from Eldrick, of which the first part of the word can have different meanings, but the ending -ric is often interpreted as "ruler" in Old English and Proto-Germanic.
- Although it is not confirmed, since his brother and his sister were devilkin it's possible he was a tiefling as well.
