The Elemental Plane of Water is one of many Planes of Existence in the Critical Role universe. It connects to several points on the world of Exandria in the Material Plane.

Notable locations[]

Silver Silt Palace[]

After the Mighty Nein freed the marid Khedive Xundi from his enslavement, he invited them to visit his palace in the Elemental Plane of Water to collect a reward;[1] they never did so.

The portal to Vesrah[]

Among the Islands of Anamn, the Water Ashari established a settlement called Vesrah to gather lodestones that help them control the flow of energies at the Aerie of Torrent, a rift between the Elemental Plane of Water and Exandria. They eventually also had to take on the responsibility of preventing a local kraken from crossing the rift into Exandria.[2]

Near the portal leading to Vesrah, there are clusters of "very" old ruins. Its walls are made of thick stone, which may imply that is was designed for larger creatures.[3]

The portal to Rumblecusp[]

On Rumblecusp, the Heaven Falls[4] are a place where the water cascades not down but up, falling toward the sky before curling into the mountain itself.[5] The falls originate from a rift into the Plane of Water.

The Cauldron Sea[]

A connection to the Elemental Plane of Water helps give the Cauldron Sea its endlessly stormy character.[6]

History[]

For her Aramenté, Keyleth's mother, Vilya, attempted to gather and return to Vesrah three lodestones that had been dropped by a kraken. She was accompanied by her own group of companions, but they were all killed in the effort. Vilya lost her leg and was presumed dead, but had escaped and made her way back to Exandria through the rift at Rumblecusp.[7]

"A Name Is Earned" (1x49)[]

In Kamaljiori's chamber in the Cavern of Axiom, there are gateways to Elemental Planes.[8] Vex'ahlia jumped into a pool marking the gateway to the Elemental Plane of Water.[9]

"Tangled Depths" (1x88)[]

For Keyleth's last task for her Aramenté, Vox Machina needed to venture through the rift into the Elemental Plane of Water. There, they had to gather three lodestones dropped by a kraken living not far from the rift without killing the kraken, as the Water Ashari people would then lose their source of lodestones. The party set off through the rift, and found the three lodestone buried at the bottom of the ocean, while fighting off the kraken. Through the course of this fight Vax died. Keyleth Plane Shifted back to Vesrah with Vex and Vax's body. Grog, Tary and Percy went back through the portal.

"Omens Above" (3x19)[]

In Heartmoor Hamlet's Blue Herald Hill neighborhood, there is a park with a statue holding a small pot that functions as a fountain, constantly issuing a trickle of fresh water. Upon inspection, the pot is connected to a place of seemingly endless water, with sourceless ambient light and frequent shifts of temperature and current. Fearne Calloway transformed into a frog, entered the mouth of the jug, and swam into the freshwater environment, where she could no longer hear the telepathic calls of Imogen Temult, implying that Fearne had entered a different plane of existence. After about a minute, Fearne tasted something slightly acidic in the water, and noticed she was being approached by a creature with glowing blue eyes before she narrowly escaped out the pot.
