Ebenold Kai is a famous astronomer and professor at the Aydinlan Seminary in Yios.
Description[]
In 843 PD, Ebenold was getting old for a halfling. He was mostly balding with wavy greying brown hair, a ruddy brown complexion,[1] a wide nose, and a bushy chin beard.[2]
Biography[]
Ebenold Kai is a well-known great astronomer, mentioned by his former associate Roe Estani in the same breath as Planerider Ryn.[3] Estani later told Orym that Ebenold was his old friend and a retired adventurer, strongly hinting that he was also a member of Grim Verity, and gave Orym a letter of introduction to give to him if Bells Hells went to the Aydinlan Seminary in Yios. Estani suggested that he could provide assistance in bringing justice for the murders of Balan and Zeyar, the Lumas twins.[4]
When Bells Hells reached the Seminary they learned Ebenold had cancelled his classes and disappeared a few months earlier, but a receptionist took them to his fairly modest home in a nice gated community nearby. The home seemed deserted, but after the party broke in, they found a hidden staircase leading down, surprising Ebenold and his half-elven companion Baryn Vestisho. The two used a scroll to cast Plane Shift and disappear, hotly pursued by the party. They found themselves in Planerider Ryn's study in the Elemental Plane of Fire[5] and discovered their mutual interests in exploring the ramifications of the coming apogee solstice, the abilities of the growing number of Ruidusborn, and Otohan Thull's apparent efforts to assemble an army of the Ruidusborn in the northern Hellcatch Valley.
Ebenold was left in the Fire Plane without a means of escape when Ryn was later turned to stone while scouting the Tishtan excavation site.[6] However, at some point he was rescued, either by the Verity of some of their allies. After the apogee solstice he was brought to Whitestone and was part of a meeting, in which he confirmed that the Grim Verity, in collaboration with Vilya of the Air Ashari, had ensured the support of different political forces against the Ruby Vanguard. He, however, admitted that they had purposely avoided diplomatic interactions with Othanzia, since his organization had stolen documents from Vasselheim.[7]
