Daldred was a historical figure of the Menagerie Coast.[1]
He was originally a local lord or chief whose love, presumably called Andica, made a great sacrifice.[2] However, their story has been altered and popularized in plays and retellings, and by 831 PD, there were plays with Daldred as a protagonist represented in both the Greying Wildlands and the Dwendalian Empire; in those stories he was a king married to a vain but noble queen, who sacrificed herself to save the kingdom from the evil Taeleron the Cleaver, who demanded her death; the tragedy ended with Daldred lamenting his loss.[3]

- Lucien Tavelle's family performed Daldred's tragedy before Elric's death, and they did again at least once after the eldest child was brought back by Azrahari. Both Lucien and Aldreda thought that the story should end with Andica's sacrifice, since she was more interesting than Daldred, but their parents disagreed.[4]
- It's possible that Aldreda was named after this historical ruler, since her name is an anagram of "Daldred".
- In a puppet show in Rexxentrum Daldred was portrayed as a golden king with curly beard.[5]
