Cytaas (pronounced /ˈsaɪtəz/) are an iguana-like sentient species of Ruidus, known for their symbiotic relationship with bormodos.
Description[]
Cytaas are lizard-like creatures with thick scaled hide and thin limbs and bodies, looking similar to iguanas with gold shimmering eyes (although they can manifest other colors), although slightly impish-looking, with somewhat fey-like features including long thin ears;[3] they have tails that can be long or short, sometimes curling into a spiral.[4] Cytaas are small enough to live cradled on the chests of their symbiote bormodos.[5]
According to Dono, young cytaas can be rambunctious.[6]
History[]
It is unknown if cytaas share the same creation myth as the reilora and the bormodos, but at some point they established a symbiotic relationship with the latter. Traditionally a cytaa bonds with a young bormodo who teaches and cares for it by keeping it warm and feeding it, and in return the cytaa helps clean the bormodo, acts as a companion and occasional advisor, and watches over them. However, if the cytaa were to die, for example, the bormodo would get a new one to take care of.[7]
In 843 PD, when Bells Hells met some of the villagers of Razora in Ruidus, they also encountered their cytaas.[8] When they visited Kreviris they unknowingly took the cytaa Gona with them on a mission to rescue her bormodo, Evoroa; Gona helped them by guiding them to the place where the scientist was being held.[9]
Trivia[]
- Much like babies of other species, young cytaas lack the ability to speak, and must learn it by listening to others.[10]
- If Gona can be taken as an example, cytaas are able to sense if their bormodo is still alive, as well as their proximity.[12]
- Since Evoroa was either the first or one of the first bormodos to visit Exandria, Gona was presumably the first cytaa to do so.[13]
