Coswald was a green dragonborn prisoner in the Calamity-era prison at Rybad-Kol when it was destroyed in a battle between the gods. As an NPC, Coswald was played by Brennan Lee Mulligan.
Description[]
Coswald was a brawny green dragonborn with an exceptionally long and draconic neck.[1]
Biography[]
Background[]
At some point in his past Coswald was caught stealing and sent as a prisoner to Rybad-Kol.
"Give and Take" (E4x01)[]
Coswald was part of a caravan of dragonborn being assembled at the prison to be sent to The Scaled Tyrant, either to fight on the front lines or to be eaten by her. He happened to be seated next to Crokas and Erro Mordaurum, as well as Celeste and her frightened children. Coswald told Marlath, another frightened dragonborn, to keep his fear to himself, and attempted to comfort the children by telling them he'd been in scarier situations before this. He agreed with Erro when he was told they might get one opportunity, and to make it count. When Rei'nia Saph arrived with a convincing story that Crokas was contagious, Coswald concocted a convincing lie that he'd lunged for the children and had spit all over them. He was part of the group taken to the prison's oubliette in order to minimize the risk of illness being spread, and was grateful to Erro for having a friend buy them some extra time to live.
The group was trapped within the underground tunnels of the oubliette during the battle between the Strife Emperor and the Prime Deities that took place above ground. When they emerged, safe, Coswald was the first to think of releasing Crokas from his muzzle so that he could speak normally. He was therefore part of the group of twelve that began the trek northward in its aftermath, and witnessed the Stormlord telling the group that the gods were leaving Exandria.
"Seven of Them" (E4x02)[]
During the journey, after Starmian Fiddleflask died, Cos tried to tell Gond Gulfsome that he didn't have to carry the body, stopping himself when he saw the look of desperation in the bugbear's face. When they finally arrived to Torm's Hill, Coswald stayed with Celwyn and Celdria so that Celeste could go find some food.
"Mirror and Key" (E4x03)[]
When Garen, Erro, Nia, Fiedra, and Crokas were about to leave Torm's Hill, Celwyn and Celdria asked why the white dragonborn had to go too, so Coswald and Gond explained to them that he had to take care of Fiedra. Shortly after, when Erro was telling Nez Pilch and Klasara Bandy about the security of the town and how to defend themselves against the forces of the Strife Emperor, Cos confirmed that they would organize something. He pointed out that they now had seven longswords.[2]
