A corrupted giant shark is one that has turned into an aberration due to exposure to ruidium.
Description[]
Appearance and behavior[]
Corrupted giant sharks are distinguished by their mouth and skin being encrusted with ruidium.[1]
Few of these sharks are described, and their behavior varies. One corrupted giant shark in Cael Morrow appeared to be an opportunistic hunter, attacking creatures as soon as they were within reach.[2] Within the Netherdeep, there are two corrupted giant sharks that won't attack nearby adventurers unless certain conditions are met.[1] However, simply being too close to a corrupted giant shark can cause damaging mental distress.[3]
Abilities[]
The following is all taken from Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep, p. 196.
- Skill proficiency: Perception
- Psychic Maelstrom: Creatures that start their turn within 15 feet of the shark must succeed at a Wisdom saving throw or take psychic damage
- Regeneration: Regains hit points at the start of its turn unless it has taken radiant damage or suffered a critical hit since its last turn.
- Water Breathing: Can breathe only while underwater
- Bite: Attacks with advantage if the target is a creature below its maximum hit points. Deals piercing damage, and the target creature must succeed at a Charisma saving throw or suffer one level of exhaustion
Known corrupted giant sharks[]
As described in the "Appearance and behavior" section above, one corrupted giant shark can be encountered in Cael Morrow, and two more can be found in the Vents of Fury in the Netherdeep.[4]
An agent of the Consortium of the Vermilion Dream is known to have panicked at the approach of a giant shark in a submerged structure in Cael Morrow, but there is no mention of whether the shark was corrupted.[5]
