The Corecut Dagger is a magical cursed dagger, and was one of Avantika's weapons until Fjord killed her undead form and retrieved the dagger from the sea. Veth is the last character to have wielded the dagger,[2] but has relinquished it after Jester cast Greater Restoration to remove the curse from her.[3]
Description[]
The dagger has a hooked, dark metal blade that is cold to the touch.[4] A faint black energy drifts off the edge of the blade.[5]
The dagger has a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls. The user can also spend one of their hit dice to deal an additional 3d6 necrotic damage on a hit.[6]
The dagger is cursed, so that the wielder bound to it wants to remain bound to it and feels a compulsion to keep it with them.[7] When the wielder is magically healed, they must spend a hit die to regain hit points. If the wielder has no hit dice to spend, they immediately die.[8]
History[]
"In Hot Water" (2x43)[]
Avantika stabbed Nott with the dagger at the Darktow docks, which is the first time any of the Nein noticed the necrotic magic of the blade.[9]
"A Heart Grown Cold" (2x113)[]
The undead Avantika used the dagger again when she and her allies tracked the last Cloven Crystal to the Midnight Hammer in the Frigid Depths. This time, when Fjord killed her, he recovered the weapon and had Caleb identify it.
"Fetching Fables & Frosty Friends" (2x115)[]
Veth used the dagger for the first time on Gestaf the yeti, where it was revealed to be cursed. Although not all the details of the curse are known, attuned wielders do not want to part with the dagger, and for her second attack on the yeti Veth chose to leap on it and pull the dagger down in its body rather than utilize her crossbow.
"Under Timeless Ice" (2x116)[]
Veth threw the dagger at one of the ice crystal creatures, where it lodged. When the creature was killed, the dagger slid down the tilted floor and out the doors into a deep pit, where it was later retrieved by Veth after she searched for it.
"Solace Between the Secrets" (2x118)[]
Veth used the dagger to pry out a lodged box.
"Malice and Mystery Below" (2x119)[]
When swallowed by the baby-creature abomination in the Aeorian ruin A2, Veth tried but failed to stab the creature from the inside. Matt reminded Sam to mark something off.
"Contentious Company" (2x120)[]
Veth threw the dagger twice at the automaton, missing once and hitting once for forty points of damage. She recovered the dagger between attempts, and used her crossbow when she didn't have the dagger.
"Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained" (2x122)[]
While discussing who should get the armor the Nein had found, Veth mentioned that if she were to attune to the armor, she would have to unattune from the dagger, which was something she was unwilling to do.
"The Neverending Day" (2x125)[]
When presented with the opportunity to use an arguably superior item requiring attunement, the Nein noticed Veth's obsessive unwillingness to lose contact with the dagger or even allow its magical properties to be identified, and Jester used Greater Restoration to free Veth of the curse.
