Cockatrices are small flying monstrosities appearing to be a hybrid of a lizard, a bird, and a bat.[1]
Description[]
Cockatrices have the wings and tails of a lizard or bat, but the beak and feet of birds. They have sparse feathers over their bodies.
Abilities[]
The cockatrice's bite attack on a failed constitution save causes the affected creature to be restrained as it begins to turn to stone. On a second failed save, the creature is petrified for 24 hours.[1]
History[]
"Compulsions" (3x40)[]
Multiple cockatrices boarded the Silver Sun over the Hellcatch Valley shortly before it reached the Gloomed Jungles of Aeshanadoor, and engaged in battle with Bells Hells. It soon became clear that the cockatrices weren't attacking the skyship, but were fleeing from a chimera.[2]
Trivia[]
- Matthew Mercer accidentally called them basilisks during their battle with Bells Hells.[3]
