Chimeras are large monstrosities with the heads and other characteristics of three creatures: a dragon, a lion, and a goat.
Description[]
In addition to the three heads, chimeras have the leathery wings and tail of a dragon, the forelimbs and torso of a lion, and the hind legs of a goat. Chimeras can fly.
Abilities[]
- Fire Breath: a cone of fiery breath like that of a red dragon (recharges on a 5 or 6)
- Multiattack: attacks three times: once with a bite, once with the lion claws, and once with its horns. The fire breath, when available, can be used in place of either the bite or the horns, indicating that the creature may sometimes ram enemies with its dragon head's horns and bite with the lion's mouth.
- Proficiencies: Perception (expertise)
History[]
Pre-stream[]
Vax'ildan and Pike Trickfoot were attacked and taken to the headquarters of the Clasp where after battling a chained chimera in the Clasp's arena, they managed to sneak out to reunite with the rest of the party.[4]
Campaign Three: Bells Hells[]
"Compulsions" (3x40)[]
While flying in the Silver Sun over the Hellcatch Valley shortly before reaching the Gloomed Jungles of Aeshanadoor, Bells Hells encountered several cockatrices. It soon became clear that the cockatrices weren't attacking the skyship, but were fleeing from a chimera, which attacked everything in sight upon reaching the ship's deck. The party and a member of the ship's crew slew the chimera; Fearne Calloway finished the creature with a shot from the ship's ballista.
Trivia[]
- Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham's son Ronin chose the chimera as the enemy for Bells Hells' encounter with one when Matt Mercer asked him what creature the party should fight next. Laura said that her son is currently obsessed with chimeras.[5]
