Charis, named for the Draconic word for "hope", is a small village in the Lotusden Greenwood.

Description[]

Charis is described as a "natural city, druidic in nature," although it is more of a village than a city. It is a union between the Lotusden halflings native the region, and the dragonborn who more recently escaped the destruction of Draconia and settled in the village.[3]

The small community is built in harmony with nature; it sits within a meadow in the Lotusden Greenwood, and many of the denizens live in hollow trees. The pathways are decorated with flowers and fungus, and there are rope bridges at the canopy level. There are small inns but little other business, and other than the leadership of the elders there is little governance.[2]

Society[]

The nature-worshiping hidden hamlet of Charis was founded by an unlikely alliance between halflings and dragonborn. Those who live there put little value on gold or jewels, but instead, emphasize community and sharing equally. Many of the residents are vegetarians and see themselves as protectors of the surrounding forest. They are isolated from the outside world, but are welcoming to peaceful visitors.[2]

Demographics[]

The town is roughly split between dragonborn and halflings, with a small minority from other races. In 836 PD, the population was 950.[2]

History[]

The Lotusden halflings who founded Charis were a nomadic people devoted to Melora. Following the destruction of Draconia during the Chroma Crisis in 811 PD, some ravenites sought refuge in the Lotusden Greenwood, but were unable to find food. The halflings took them in, and together they founded Charis as a permanent home within the forest.[2]
