Carolle is a human receptionist in the Aydinlan Seminary of Yios. As an NPC, she is played by Matthew Mercer.

Description

When Bells Hells encountered her, Carolle was a pale human woman in her 40s with a short, blonde bob cut. She wore a pin with the green-blue leaf symbol of the Seminary.

Carolle had been working at the Seminary for about about five or six years in 843 PD. She found the work not terribly challenging, but with nice benefits. She enjoyed meeting interesting people and "seeing the new students come every year and watching them progress and get involved in their own particular dramas and the whispers that come through. She admitted, however, that the students didn't love her.

She also admitted to a side business buying and selling knick-knacks. At least once, she stole a small statue from a professor's office, and when it wasn't missed, sold it as well.

Her dream was to save enough to buy a little boat, meet a nice fisherman, and live comfortably off the land outside the city at the end of the Eastward Bridge, although her actual knowledge of the realities of this life seemed to be sketchy at best.

Biography

Bells Hells entered the Seminary in search of Professor Ebenold Kai, to whom they had a letter of introduction, and Professor Kadija Sumal, who they knew to be involved with the Omen Archive. Carolle told them that Kai had abruptly cancelled his classes and disappeared, but that Sumal was still active. When a judicator entered, Carolle was wary and apprehensive, along with the other students and faculty present, and relieved when it moved on. As the party continued questioning her about the judicator, she grew increasingly suspicious of them, and when they asked Kai's home address she told them if they were really his friends, they would know it. When Fresh Cut Grass cast Fast Friends on her, however, she became extremely helpful, giving them all the information they were seeking and volunteering to give up her lunch hour to escort them to Kai's home.

As the group walked, they attempted to make friends with Carolle so that when the spell wore off, she would still like them. She shared her love of gardening and flowers, and the details of her side businesses. When they parted with her, Orym gave her five platinum wrapped in a handkerchief, and Fearne gave her a purple poppy containing plantable seeds.

Later, when Bells Hells revisited the Aydinlan Seminary, she attempted to stop several of the party from entering, but was intimidated by Ashton's threatening marinara-covered wooden spoon.

• "I won't say who I nicked it from, but there was this really nice bronze-lined statue with emerald dyes that was used as a paper weight for quite some time by Professor Dinon. When he asked for his room to be cleaned I just set it aside for a few months to see if it would be asked about, in which case I would return it. But after about eight months of nobody noticing it gone, I cleaned it up a bit and made a nice little chunk of change."
