Camellia Springshower is a druid nomad that wanders the Dividing Plains as of 836 PD.[1]

Description[]

Appearance[]

Camellia is a firbolg with curly red hair. Her traumatic experience altered her appearance, turning the mottled dun fur of her skin to a pale gray, with her hands darkening. Her then brown eyes are now milky white, and although her hair retains its color, it is now unkempt, with the withered remains of flowers and branches entangling it. She wears a tattered dirty green dress, with an apron and shawl that were once white, but now appear yellowish. She carries with her a wooden staff with withered flowers.[1]

Personality[]

Camellia was once a cheerful and happy young woman who enjoyed the beauty of the world and loved to explore. After her traumatic incident, she became more sad and melancholic, although she still tries to be kind, even in her sinister state.[1]

Biography[]

Camellia encountering the specter by Adrián Ibarra Lugo

Official art of Camellia and the specter, by Adrián Ibarra Lugo from Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn, page 86.[art 2]

Camellia was part of a family who traveled across Tal'Dorei. When they were in the Dividing Plains, she left the group to explore, and entered the bleak depths of Shadebarrow, where she found the monolithic henges used once by the sun-worshipping druids of the Dawn Circle, who aided Zan Tal'Dorei during the Scattered War and were slaughtered by Trist Drassig because of it.[2][1] One of the specters that dwelled in that area found Camellia as she was trying to escape and touched her chest, cursing her and marking her magic as it connected her to that unhallowed territory. When it happened the effect was immediate, and the flowers that Camellia carried in her basket withered away as she ran.[3][1]

Camellia did eventually escape the Shadebarrow, but by then her family had left. Alone and as a shadow of her former self, Camellia remained in the Dividing Plains, discovering her new blighted powers, intending to use them for good, even if they appear to serve only to wither all life that comes in contact with her.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Both her first and last names refer to flowers and spring, which becomes ironic given her current blighted state.
  • It's very possible that Camellia was already a druid when she encountered the specter, since most blighted druids become such when dark influences warp the nature magic they already have.[1]
  • The specter that cursed Camellia could be one of the dead explorers that try to scare intruders away.[3]
  • Camellia is, along with Balthasar Bleakskull and Karzadrawn Sunscale, the only adventurer representative of her subclass who is not visible on the cover of Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn, even though they were featured in said art originally.[4]
