Bullywugs are frog-like humanoids.
Appearance[]
Bullywugs are bipedal, but they have have features reminiscent of frogs, including a frog-like head, legs suited for powerful leaping, and skin that must remain moist. Their skin is generally green, gray, or mottled yellow, but it shifts to various other gray, green, and brown shades to camouflage them in their native swamps. They tend to wear crude armor and wield simple weapons.[1]

The Mighty Nein, while traversing The Garden in the Folding Halls of Halas, fought against a froghemoth and its bullywug followers.[5]
In the adventure Unwelcome Spirits, groups of hostile bullywugs can be encountered in the Brokenveil Marsh, whether out in the open[6] or in a murky cave where a clan of bullywugs and their giant toad steeds reside. The clan sends out hunting and raiding parties daily.[7]
Bands of bullywugs with encampments deep in K'Tawl Swamp occasionally venture to the outskirts of Stilben, harassing the populace.[8][9]
Trivia[]
- Although the Dungeon Master's Guide of 2014 provides the bullywug as a character option, the only bullywug player character so far, Padmund,[10] uses the abilities of a grung (another frog-like race), retaining only the Speak with Frogs and Toads trait from a traditional bullywug.
- Bullywug NPCs in the 2025 Monster Manual have the fey creature type.[11]
