A brown bear,[7] also known as a grizzly bear[8] is a large, brown-furred subspecies of bear found on Tal'Dorei.[9]

Description[]

Brown bears are large, mammalian beasts indigenous to Tal'Dorei.[10] A subspecies of bears, they are distinguished by their brown fur and ability to climb. Like other bears, they have a keen sense of smell.[1]

History[]

Trinket, the animal companion to Vex'ahlia, was a famous brown bear.[11]

Behind the scenes[]

Mechanics[]

In mechanical terms, brown bears are large-sized, unaligned beasts with a natural armor class of eleven, an average of thirty-four hit points, a walking speed of forty feet, and a climbing speed of thirty feet. They have proficiency in Perception, a passive Perception of thirteen, and a challenge rating of five.[1]

Brown bears have an ability called "Keen Smell", granting them advantage on Perception checks reliant on smell. In combat, they have a "Multiattack" option, allowing them to make a "Bite" attack, a melee weapon attack that deals piercing damage, and a "Claws" attack, a melee weapon attack that deals slashing damage.[1]
