Brood Pit

The Brood Pit is a seed-like object produced by the the All-Minds-Burn being.

Description[]

The pit is a hard shelled object about the size of an orange.^[1] It is some form of fungus.^[2]

History[]

"Embattled in Bassuras" (3x70)[]

The Brood Pit was created when Imogen Temult asked the All-Minds-Burn being if it wanted to see the moon. A portion of its central stalk split slightly to release the Pit, and Justi Pross urged them to take it with them, saying, "It wants to be seeded," and there were many who were part of it who could aid when needed as long as, if they reached the surface of Ruidus, they left it there. Although Imogen didn't want to touch the Pit, Ashton Greymoore picked it up, and they agreed.^[3]

"Ruidus" (3x83)[]

Ashton considered planting the seed on Ruidus in the shallow cavern in which the party sheltered from a storm, but Imogen felt strongly it should be planted deep underground because that was the environment the parent plant lived in, and Ashton agreed to wait.^[4]

"Race to the Ruidian Core" (3x117)[]

On their way to the Hallowed Cage Imogen gave Ashton the seed, suspecting they could find a good place to plant it. Shortly afterwards, Bells Hells encountered a myceit colony that guided them to a chamber where the "core" of their community lived, and since it was a subterranean and moist area, Ashton decided to plant the Brood Pit there. It started reacting and slowly expanded, but the myceit tendrils connected to the chamber grabbed it and examined it. When Fearne established a psychic connection to it, it expressed curiosity about what the seed was and why it was there. Ashton replied that it was a friend who wanted to explore a new home, and Fearne added that it had felt lonely. This was a feeling the myceit hive mind understood, so it embraced the Brood Pit, changing color until it found a balance between the seed's and its own.^[5]

"A New Age Begins" (3x121)[]

The new fungal combination was expanding in unison at a rapid pace.^[6]
