Bog wretches are large creatures, about the size of an ox, with massive mouths with black tendril-like tongues, multiple thin tentacles, and eyestalks, which seem to shift and move around an amorphous face. They are covered in moss, vines, and other plant life and from a distance appear to be simply a mound, but they can pull themselves along the ground by extending their tentacles forward. They also use their tentacles to swat away the pixies that tend to swarm annoyingly around them. They are nocturnal and appear to be disturbed by bright lights.

Abilities

Bog wretches have a multiattack of two tentacle strikes doing 18 to 22 points of bludgeoning damage each and grappling the target on a hit, plus additional attacks: a tongue lash that on a failed strength save pulls the target toward the creature's mouth, and a melee bite attack doing piercing damage and swallowing the target on a hit. It is resistant to fire damage. They have an AC higher than 12 but less than 16, a DC for the tongue lash of less than 19, a +9 Constitution save, and approximately 300 hit points.

History

Bells Hells encountered a bog wretch pulling itself through the forest while the party was rafting down the Boreal Omen River through the Savalirwood of the Greying Wildlands. It was surrounded by a swarm of pixies, and jumped into the river to attack when Imogen shone a bright light into its eye.
