The blue perennem flower is an herb that grows in the Grey Valley in northern Tal'Dorei. It can be compounded into an ointment capable of healing wounds made by weapons poisoned with Otohan Thull's anti-resurrection toxin, by slowly rejuvenating the areas corrupted by the toxin. However, it has no effect once the person has passed away.[2]

Description[]

The flowers of the perennem are bright blue, and it has six dark leaves marked with a pattern resembling a screaming face.[3] It grows in only a handful of places, tending to be found in clusters in locations marked by strife and that "draw the attention of less than friendly things."[4] Its bright coloration makes it visible amid the drabness of the Grey Valley, one of the few places in which it can be found.[5]

History[]

Campaign Three: Bells Hells[]

The Ashari village of Zephrah discovered that an ointment made from the perennem flower could heal the otherwise permanent wounds inflicted by anti-resurrection toxin poisoned blades, but they did not have enough to deal with the numbers following the Battle of the Red Center against the forces of the Ruby Vanguard at the Apogee Solstice. A badly-wounded Keyleth sent a group of villagers (including Baernie, Turan and Fira) to get more from the Grey Valley but they had failed to return after three days. When Bells Hells arrived, she sent them to try to complete this mission as well as find and potentially rescue the previous search party.[6]

When the party arrived at the Valley, they were able to collect about a third of the amount needed before being attacked by fiends, zombies, and other creatures they had disturbed.[7] Later, when they rescued the surviving Ashari scouts in the Iridon Bastion they learned they had also collected more than enough of these flowers before being captured by fiends.[8] When the group returned to Zephrah, the herbalists there compounded the flowers into a light blue paste, which when applied to Keyleth's wounds, augmented with dried leaves and colored dust, and activated by her magic, healed her lingering wounds and restored some of her strength.[9]

Trivia[]

  • Matt mispronounced the name of the flower as "blue perineum" the first time it was mentioned, and the cast ran with it, choosing thereafter to call it every possible synonymous permutation they could think of. Their names for the flower include:
  • Gooch gladiolas
  • Gooch poppies
  • Grundle bundles
  • Grundle greens
  • Grundle growths
  • Inbetweenus flowers
  • Nether-lillies
  • Panty petunias
