Blink dogs are dog-like fey creatures with an ability to teleport short distances.

Appearance[]

A blink dog takes its name from its ability to blink in and out of existence, a talent it uses to aid its attacks and to avoid harm. They are known to grow to quite a large size.[4][5] Their fey nature distinguishes their appearance from normal dogs: they have unusually angular limbs and abnormally long, pointed ears.[6]

Skills and abilities[]

  • Keen Hearing and Smell: The dog has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell.
  • Bite: Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 4 (1d6 + 1) piercing damage.
  • Teleport: The dog magically teleports, along with any equipment it is wearing or carrying, up to 40 feet to an unoccupied space it can see. Before or after teleporting, the dog can make one bite attack.[1]

History[]

Blink dogs are believed to have originated in the Feywild, but they were brought to Exandria and partially domesticated for their skills.[7]

Known blink dogs[]

Trivia[]

  • Blink dogs are omnivorous, but a healthy diet for them is ground nuts made into a meal.[8]
  • In the Monster Manual, displacer beasts and blink dogs kill each other on sight after a history of the Seelie Court's fey hunters using blink dogs to drive displacer beasts to the edges of the Feywild and thus into the Material Plane.[9]
