Automaton is a general term for moving mechanical devices capable of independently performing functions according to predetermined instructions. They are a subset of the broader term "constructs".
Description[]
Automatons (or "automata") come in immensely varied sizes, shapes, and functions, from Vox Seekers the size of a dinner plate[1] to the massive carrowhulks of pre-Calamity Avalir.[2]
The Tishtan excavation site in 843 PD utilized hulking Warders as additional guards along with members of Paragon's Call and the Ruby Vanguard.[3]
History[]
Automatons have been created in Exandria since pre-Calamity times, and in Aeor their construction reached its pinnacle, allowing some of them to achieve true sentience and eventually be recognized as a free race, the Aeormatons.
In Marquet around 840 PD, Dancer created an adventuring party called the Division of Public Benefit, which in addition to its humanoid members utilized multiple automatons: Pussy, Oatmeal, Thunderstorm, Apple Pie, and Fresh Cut Grass, who in actuality was an Aeormaton.[4][5] Later, Dancer had other automatons named Cookie[6] and Pussy II.[7]
