Chidra the Blue Rose, better known as Auntie Mama, was a human smuggler from Shadycreek Run.
Description[]
Appearance[]
Auntie Mama was a human in her fifties, with a wrinkled face, rouged lips, a bit of chin hair, and gray hair. She used to wear layers of brown-and-green housecoat and floppy felt slippers ended in points, and she always had rings on her fingers.[3]
Personality[]
Auntie Mama was a determined woman who had hardened over the years, becoming smart and mean, and while she showed some compassion, it ended where her own well-being began.
Biography[]
Chidra was born around 772 PD, growing up and eventually marrying a goliath man called Lazak Oakbender, the Dark Forge, who was so famous that was even known in the Menagerie Coast. The couple settled in the North Clover area in Shadycreek Run, and had three children together: a daughter, Brevyn, and two sons, Narath and Vik.[4] While Lazak was a nice father for Brevyn, who loved to spend time in the forge with him, listening to his stories, the goliath was a violent man and cruel husband who beated his wife. Chidra, eventually, poisoned him, causing the goliath to fall into the forge, burning to ash. Brevyn and her brothers, Narath and Vik, were sent away.[5]

Chidra stayed in Shadycreek Run, making a living as a smuggler for the Mardoon family. As of 822 PD everyone knew her as Auntie Mama, and she had her own home, and often took in stray dogs that she named after different gems (although she never bothered to remember which mutt was which). Occasionally local orphans such as Lucien Tavelle and Cree Deeproots would stop by looking for food or shelter (which she offered sparingly, albeit in exchange for favors or errands),[6] but she always kept her daughter Brevyn as her favorite child, who despite learning hemocraft with the Claret Orders in the Marrow Valley still visited her from time to time. In one of those occasions the half-goliath healed Lucien in her mother's home after he was hurt opening a trapped box with Cree; the three of them became close after that.[7]
At some point in or before 827 PD[8] Auntie Mama's neighbor, Everleen Gorbus, was being mistreated by her husband Gorbus, who had chained her up in their home when she tried to leave. Auntie Mama didn't know all the details, but since she liked Everleen, Brevyn, Lucien, and Cree helped the woman in distress flee the city under the cover of darkness with Gundobal's most valuable possessions. However, this caused one night that said man entered Auntie Mama's house and threatened her with a knife, asking where his wife was. After that incident Auntie Mama was so angry with her daughter and her friends that she kicked them out, giving them only a pittance for the road.[9] Even though Brevyn stood strong before her mother, she cried and vomited, dismayed by the event.[10] The three of them ended up joining the Claret Orders.[11]
Auntie Mama stayed in Shadycreek Run with her dogs, working for the Mardoons until in 829 PD, that connection got her in trouble with the Jagentoth family. Reese Jagentoth took Auntie Mama in chains to the square and killed her in public as a message. Her house was left empty, and by 831 PD Zoran Kluthidol, Tyffial Wase, and Briyakar Jurrell, who had left the Claret Orders, started living there.[12] That same year Brevyn (who had written letters to Auntie Mama from the Marrow Valley and Rexxentrum without getting answers)[13] returned home with Lucien, Cree, and Otis Brunkel, and after a brief fight with the three trespassers, the circumstances of Auntie Mama's demise were exposed; despite her daughter's desire for revenge the group ended up deciding to recover Auntie Mama's remains instead, in order to give her a proper farewell instead of having her where the Jagentoths kept those who betrayed them.[14] That first adventure started their group, that would be known as the Tombtakers,[15]
After Auntie Mama's corpse was recovered Brevyn found her will sewed into her sleeve, discovering that her mother had named her the inheritor of her house, and had also left instructions to find "certain assets of interest".[16] With a new home at their disposal the Tombtakers lived in Shadycreek Run for a while, doing different odd jobs,[17] until eventually the Jagentoths tried to attack them in Auntie Mama's house, stopping only because Vess DeRogna appeared and bargained for their lives, so she could hire the Tombtakers herself.[18]

Trivia[]
- Her name, Chidra, seems to come from the Sanskrit chidrá (छिद्र), which means "torn apart" or "pierced".
- While it is not confirmed, the meaning of her name could reference the way she died.
- She smoked a pipe for decades, which made her voice hoarse.[19]
- Despite her unpleasant personality, she loved her stray dogs very much.
- She cared for at least three: Jet, Emerald, and Diamond.
- Her house was not very well cared for, and she did not worry too much about making renovations if it was not strictly necessary.
- After Brevyn's death[20] Auntie Mama's sons, Narath and Vik, were her last known living relatives, although of them it is only known that they were still alive in 822 PD (since at that time Auntie Mama thought of Brevyn as her favorite daughter, implying that the other two had not died).
