The Arms of Emon is a well-trained force of guards tasked with enforcing the laws of Emon.[1]

Description[]

Though the Arms of Emon operates out of the Military District, it is not part of the standing military and its training is generally separate from that of military recruits.[2] However, in times of war, the Tal'Dorei Council appoints a Master of War, who raises an army in part from the Arms of Emon; these personnel are directed to the House of Discipline to learn the arts and realities of war.[3]

The force is open to all applicants, but the training in the Walls of Tribute, known colloquially as the Quarry, is demanding. In addition to physical conditioning and careful training to use nonlethal force, recruits are taught about the city's laws, its ideals, and the habits of its criminal underworld.[3]

As of 836 PD, the Arms of Emon were unofficially divided into the Arms upon the Walls, who patrolled the walls of the city while lightly armed and armored, and the Arms on the Streets, who patrolled the city streets to dissuade criminals and respond to violent crime.[4]

Different parts of the city received disparate enforcement. As of 812 PD, the Arms of Emon neglected the defense of the Upper Slums.[5] As of 836 PD, Abdar's Promenade was particularly heavily patrolled.[4]
