The Apex War was a years-long conflict between the factions of the Stratos Throne of the Taloned Highlands and the Court of the Lambent Path of Aeshanadoor.
Known events[]
In approximately 823 PD, the Stratos Throne and the Court of the Lambent Path engaged in a years-long war that left both sides "exhausted, expended, and without victory".[5] The conflict eventually destroyed over a third of the continent of Marquet.[6]
The war was fought intensely on the territories of both Aeshanadoor and the Taloned Highlands, with the latter being seen as the instigator because of their push for expansion. It ended in stalemate when it became economically unviable to continue,[7] and Marquesian forces outside the conflict (such as Ank'Harel, Jrusar, and the Panagrip Sands) influenced them to stop fighting.[8]
At some point during the War, the village of Gelvaan came under attack at least once and swathes of farmland were torched.[9] During the conflict, both sides destroyed their skyports and did not immediately replace them. As of 843 PD, the only officially remaining skyports in Marquet are in Ank'Harel and Jrusar, neither of which was involved in the war.[10]
During the War, Ira Wendagoth was hired by one of the sides to do research, and paid handsomely for it.[11] Ariks Eshteross, a then-young mercenary and soldier of fortune, fought on the Aeshanadoor side, at some point being involved in a blood feud with General Otohan Thull of the opposing army. At the conclusion of the war, a disillusioned Eshteross took up a more peaceful residence in Jrusar,[12] while Otohan Thull returned to Bassuras,[13] disappointed at the inconclusive nature of the conflict's end and looking for a chance to achieve glory on the battlefield.[14] The minor Mahaan House Kade (with roots in livestock raising in the Taloned Highlands under the Stratos Throne)[15] also left for Jrusar.[16]
As of 843 PD, there were still small strongholds, rebuilt watchtowers, and military installations along the roads of the Taloned Highlands, part of the Stratos Throne's defenses.[17]
Trivia[]
- During this conflict elephants were used in battle, and some of them were still alive and sent to Vasselheim to help the Exandrian Accord.[18]
- Ludinus Da'leth wasn't involved in the war but through his connections, he had picked up on Otohan Thull's capabilities and legend. He reached out to her and filled her with renewed purpose post war world.[19][20]
