This page lists pets of the cast members that have appeared in Critical Role media.
Dagon[]
Dagon was a cinnamon green-cheeked conure, the pet of Marisha Ray and Matthew Mercer.[1] She appeared in "Explorer's Guide to Wildemount Q&A and Fireside Chat with Matthew Mercer" (Sx53). She passed away in December 2021.[2] Marisha dedicated the game in "A Familiar Problem: Sprinkle's Incredible Journey" (Sx68) to her.
Sam Riegel revealed that in "Echo Tree" (LVM2x08) recordings of Dagon were used for the sounds in the Fey Realm. In fact, one type of fey bird featured in the episode has actually a similar coloration to Dagon's; Matt later confirmed that the final design for those fey birds was, indeed, based on Dagon, and that decision was made while the real pet was still alive. After some time Matt and Marisha forgot about that detail, Dagon passed away, and when they finally watched the episode in which one of those fey birds was killed by a plant, it was a strange (although ultimately fun) experience.[3]
Dagon was named after Mehrunes Dagon, an Elder Scrolls character, and the mesopotamian god Dagon.[4]
Henry[]
Henry is a large white dog of mixed breed with black ears, the pet of Ashley Johnson and Brian W. Foster. He frequently appeared on Talks Machina prior to the socially distant format that debuted in 2021 due to COVID-19. Henry had a dedicated cushion on the Talks Machina set, and sometimes interacted with guests during episodes. He was always seen with a bandana tied around his neck.
Henry's breed is unclear, but he appears to share physical traits with pitbulls.
Omar[]
Omar is a corgi with a golden brown and white coat, and is the pet of Marisha Ray and Matthew Mercer. He appeared in the announcement portions of Exandria Unlimited Prime wearing a new outfit in every episode. He also appeared in the first, fourth, eighth, sixteenth, nineteenth and twenty-second episodes of 4-Sided Dive, and in the pre-credits portion of "Far From The Others" (3x52). He also made a very relaxed appearance, displaying his natural comfort in front of the camera, in the sponsorship announcements segment of "Reconciliation" (3x102).
Omar was adopted by Matt and Marisha in June 2020.[5]
Sullivan[]
Sullivan, also known as Sully, was a small black and white dog, and was the pet of Ashley Johnson. He appeared in "Talks Machina #11: 'The Deceiver's Stand'" (TMx11). Sully passed away in November 2018.[6]
Trivia[]
- During the halftime breaks of Talks Machina's socially distant format, an image slideshow depicting several pictures of pets of the cast was played. It included Liam's pet dog Sprigg, named after the Critical Role character of the same name.
- Liam had been sharing "Sprigg Reports" of the little dog on social media, showing pictures of him doing various activities like playing with Omar. On 25 June 2024 he shared the last report, revealing that for a year Sprigg had been battling lymphoma, until he sadly passed away the weekend previous to the last Sprigg Report.[7]
- Ashley and Brian owned another dog, a bernese mountain dog named Bullock, who has not appeared on Critical Role.[8] He was seen modelling the Critical Role Pet Reversible Bandana Set with Henry on the official Critical Role Twitter account.[9]
