Anika Noni Rose is a Tony award-winning actor and singer best known for providing the speaking and singing voices of Princess Tiana in the 2009 Disney animated feature film The Princess and the Frog.[1]

She provided the voice of Marion Lavorre in The Mighty Nein.

Background[]

Anika grew up in Bloomfield, Connecticut. She fell in love with reading early in her life, and her parents would treat her and her brother to Broadway shows during her childhood. After she was cast in a high school musical, she decided to pursue acting as a career, graduating from Florida A&M University with a bachelor's degree in Theater, and later from the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco with a Master of Fine Arts.[2] She moved to New York City and almost immediately began getting theater roles, eventually winning the 2004 Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role in Caroline, or Change. She appeared as one of the original singing trio in the 2006 movie Dreamgirls.

After her role as a more modern Disney princess in The Princess and the Frog, Anika has continued her work on stage and in film, television, and voice work. She is also the author of a children's picture book, Tiana's Perfect Plan.
