Agony is a magic flail. One of the Vestiges of Divergence, the hooked chains of this brutal weapon still smell of dried blood and rot from countless slow tortures and brutal executions.[1] Legend says that Agony was wielded in the Calamity by the gnoll scion of a flesh-eating Demon Lord.[2] It has not yet appeared on Critical Role.

Properties[]

Agony properties shifted moving from Critical Role: Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting to Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting Reborn. Changed property marked with additional reference from the updated campaign setting book.

Dormant State[]
  • The wielder gains a +2 bonus to damage rolls made with this magic weapon.
  • Whenever you damage a creature with Agony, that creature is marked for 10 minutes or until you damage a different creature. When you hit a creature marked in this way with this weapon, the target takes an extra 1d6 piercing damage.[2]
Awakened State[]
  • The extra damage when you hit a marked creature increases to 1d8.
  • A marked creature has disadvantage on Constitution checks and Constitution saving throws.[2]
  • When you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with an attack using Agony, they can immediately make an additional melee attack with this weapon as a bonus action.
Exalted State[]
  • The bonus to damage rolls is increased to +3.[2]
  • The extra damage when you hit a marked creature increases to 2d8.[2]
  • When the wielder scores a critical hit with this weapon, the target must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened of the wielder for 1 minute. If this saving throw is successful, not only does the target not become frightened, they become immune to this frightening effect for the next 24 hours.
