The Aevilux were a splinter group of followers of the Luxon who have learned to split their own souls in two.
While the two halves of an Aevilux's soul are separated, they can manifest abilities such as telepathic communication between them and magical empowerment of one through the other.
History[]
At some point before 824 PD[1] a Luxon beacon was found in a land far away from Byroden, and those who discovered it started learning from it, eventually contacting the deity associated with the relic. Inspired by the story of the First Radiance and how they had fragmented to better understand the world and themself, these mortals learned how to magically split their souls in two, creating two living individuals that would live and observe the world independently before reuniting again, at which point the complete individual would become more powerful and would apparently manifest heterochromia.[2]
The original sect from which the Aevilux originated disappeared over time, but its members and their descendants can still be found in a couple of places in the world, including a pocket in Tal'Dorei.[3]
An Aevilux human, Paloma formed a family in Byroden and gave birth to twin daughters (Ted and Opal) who were connected with each other as Aevilux, and who eventually "combined" in a single body, many years later. When those daughters were struggling against the will of the Spider Queen, the goddess destroyed a memory of Paloma talking to her children about the subject.[4]

Trivia[]
- The name seems to combine the Latin words aevī (which comes from aevum, referring to "age" and/or to a perception of time experienced by celestial beings) and lux (which means "light").
- The Aevilux were created because for Exandria Unlimited Prime Aabria Iyengar wanted to bring an equivalent of the kalashtar (a playable race from Eberron known for their psychic abilities and the presence of two minds in one body) to Exandria. That race was one of the references for the process of Opal's character creation, although for most of the adventure she (as a character) was unaware of them. The final result were the Aevilux as both a religious group and a collective of people with common racial traits and abilities.[5]
- As she explained the Aevilux, Aabria said that she saw some similarities between them and the concept of an echo knight, since an Aevilux has a twin that is a part of themself and gives them power, the same way that the dunamantic fighter creates echoes that are versions of themself that fight for them.

- ↑ Paloma was a member of this group and her daughters were born in 824 PD, so their mother was born or became an Aevilux before having them.
