Aasimars, also known as angel bloods,[10] are medium-sized humanoids whose heritage shares a bond with celestial powers or whose soul has been touched by the divine.[3] Most have human parents.[1]
Traits[]
Aasimar are longer-lived than regular humans—they can live up to 160 years—but they tend to mature at the same rate.[3] The aasimar in Exandria tend to have distinct visual traits like exotic eye colors,[11][12][13] skin color,[14] or even (in Reani's case) a halo and gold freckles.[15]
Angelic guides[]
Aasimar who have not turned to evil have a link to a celestial being, usually a deva, who provides guidance in the aasimar's dreams, through visions, prophecies, or feelings. The being is not at all omniscient, but may provide insight into fighting some potent evils it does know about, and it tends to guide the aasimar toward the principles of law and goodness.[3] Reani's angelic guide is Samliel, who doesn't speak to her frequently but whom she credits with her firm stance on helping people[16] and summarily killing evil.[17]
Types of aasimar[]

There are three "subraces" of aasimar,[18] but it is possible for an aasimar to transform from one to another, as they generally reflect the aasimar's disposition. Yasha Nydoorin exhibited the abilities of a fallen aasimar: she could conjure a Necrotic Shroud, during which her eyes and the tips of her hair turned jet black, and her wings were black and skeletal.[19] After a series of visions and tests[20][21] from the Storm Lord during which Yasha exhibited personal growth, Yasha's formerly skeletal black wings became full and feathered, and capable of brief flight, as those of a protector aasimar.[22] A few days later, Caduceus Clay noticed that her black hair was returning to its former silver-white color at the roots.[23]
Protector aasimar[]
Protector aasimar, as the name suggests, are driven to protect others and to face down threats in the service of good. Protector aasimar are often wise, and are capable of sprouting glowing, magical wings, capable of flight, from their backs for a brief period of time per day.[1]
Scourge aasimar[]
Scourge aasimar are often hardy, and feel an intense need to destroy all that is evil. They are filled with a radiant energy that they can unleash upon others, but this energy burns enemies, allies, and the scourge aasimar themselves alike.[1]
Fallen aasimar[]
Fallen aasimar have often come into contact with evil influences that have turned their nature towards darkness. They are often strong, and while they, like the protector aasimar, can manifest wings, those wings are flightless, featherless, and serve only to scare others and drain their life force.[24]

Wildemount[]
Across Wildemount, the birth of an aasimar is considered a portent and a blessing, and they are understood to have a greater cosmic destiny than other mortals.[3]
Dwendalian Empire[]
Whether an aasimar is born into a law-abiding family that worships one of the Empire's approved deities, and the child seems to be touched by an angel of one of those deities, determines whether they and their family are elevated to higher status or they have to flee for the Menagerie Coast or Greying Wildlands.[3] Trent Ikithon of the Cerberus Assembly took a special interest in Yasha as soon as he met her, although it was unclear whether that was due to her admission that she was from Xhorhas and only been in the Empire for eight months, or something else.[25]

Aasimar manage to arouse curiosity even among the people of the Clovis Concord who are used to seeing colorful and unusual folk.[3]
Xhorhas[]

Within the Kryn Dynasty, aasimar are seen as overflowing with potential, and they tend to be trained essentially from birth as dunamancers and echo knights.[3]
Among the outlying tribes of Xhorhas, like the Dolorav, the birth of an aasimar is interpreted by the shamans as a message from the gods whose meaning is related to the circumstances of the birth: such a child born during a thunderstorm might be seen as a warning from Kord, the Storm Lord, for example.[3]
Elemental Plane of Fire and the Nine Hells[]
Aasimar are prized as slaves in the City of Brass due to their rarity,[26] and they instantly commanded the interest of a visiting ambassador of the Nine Hells, Ghurrix.[27]

Trivia[]
- Since it is known that some consecuted souls of the Kryn Dynasty are born with innate dunamantic powers,[30] it is very likely that aasimar children are among those cases, touched by the celestial power of The Luxon, and that's why they are trained to use those powers from such an early age.
- Although the three subraces of aasimar are the most commonly known, in 5th Edition there is a fourth type, a "variant" presented as a mirror of the tiefling race that, instead of having the Healing Hands trait or any special transformation, get access to the Lesser Restoration and Daylight spells at 3rd and 5th level respectively.[31]
