Critical Discussion
C3 was the most divisive story to say the least. And the ending also divided people. Even Mercer himself has stated that he doesn't think the Rite of Catatheosis was the best choice. As it may not hold Predathos back forever and now most of the Betrayer Gods are lose. Plus, without their master's command, the Devils of the 9 Hells will intesify their infighting in order to claim lordship over the 9 Hells. And Hell's Bells were not seen in positive lights by everyone in the end. In and out of universe.
So, I think C4 should address everything I've written here. C4 should be set centuries after C3. Everyone from every party in the past is dead. Perhaps technology has even advanced to the levels of the Eberron setting. But the Betrayer Gods and the Prime Gods either waged another war in the past, or are waging one at the current time. And many fear that this is a second calamity. Plus, with the advances of technology mirroring those in the Age of Arcanum, some fear another apocalypse is coming. Especially since it was the greed of mortals that lead to the Calamity.
Is history repeating itself? SHOULD it repeat itself? Or is there a way to avert it? Are the changes made between 3 and 4 bad or good? Or are they mixed bags? And what will happen if Predathos shows up again, unfooled? These should be the central themes of C4 in my opinion.

So we have the Gods, and Predathos. predathos is described as older/different then the other gods, amorphous, corrupting, and all consuming.
This sounds almost identical to Tharizdun. Tharizdun is described as different somehow than the other gods (older,) and is described as more powerful (being able to destroy the divine gate single-handedly.)
As well as amorphous, corrupting, and consuming (ex raven queens angels.)
So are Predathos and Tharizdun similar entities or species. It’s strange then that they call it a god, and didn’t try to destroy its memory like predathos. Perhaps Tharizdun is this guys kid or something.
I am not a fan of the “it’s Thursday night” intro that Critical Role has implemented in Campaign 3. I feel the song is less well composed than the previously used “Your turn to roll” song. As well as being tied to a now arbitrary date that many fans don’t end up watch the show on (it’s YouTube release is on Monday.)
The music is a smaller critique compared to the animation. The previous campaign’s animation showed us the characters we would be watching, displaying their abilities in situations they could encounter.
As well as showing us nods to the characters personalities and backstories, thus reminding us of who the characters we are following are.
The new animation shows us the cast wearing their normal attire doing vaguely analogous actions to what their characters do, and the transitions are at times nonsensical. They opted to use rotoscoping which maps animation onto their real selves, this combined with the nonexistent background setting and simple animation additions means they might as well have just forgone animation and used special effects to construct it. I guess I feel it lacks the heart and immersion that previous animation had.
Sorry for the rant, I wanted to put my feelings on the subject out there.
If anyone else has thoughts on the subject I’d like to hear them.
So some GATE Thus the X nation fought there situation having both Earth (such as 21st century version) & Material Plane's Exandria (Around the Post-Divergence era) making contact by some teleportation portal similar to the gate during a specific time before the founding of both Vox Machina & Might Nein, how might things change for both planets & beyond forever? Be quite interesting that English & Common are the same while Exandria's Humans be VERY confused with Earth's thousands of languages even if English the 'most' widely spoken language. Plus could be quite explosive to see Earth's science technology advancement VS against Exandria's magic, Earth's superpower nations (include No.1 Hyperpower USA) having WMDs (not just nukes) clashes against unnatural powerful deities+'gods'+monsters from the Material Plane, how the various nations of both worlds' use one & other for their benefits & how the 2 groups (Vox Machina & Might Nein) interact with things related to Earth+traveling to even living on Earth.
What are ya thoughts?
Opinions on the show so far?
Hi!
I was just wondering, why the main episode references for specials were removed in the list of episodes? That was incredibly useful to know when to watch which special to not break order.
I know there is the 'by airdate' section in each episodes infobox, but that is way less convenient as an overview, especially on mobile where I find the wiki to not display great. It also means you have to access the episode page to see whats next, which might spoil something with the synposis at the top
Hi everyone! I’m trying this out - I think it may be helpful to note people, places, and things that need new articles or updates, by episode, so people have an idea of where to start. Usually PC pages get updated pretty quickly so I'm not mentioning them here, but other information often lags, especially if it requires creating a new page. I think it’s easier to stay up to date than to catch up (although I may do this on the off weeks as well for catch-up reasons).
Priority pages to create:
Ocampo - Created
Updated: not a Roper, but a Mimic
Pages to update:
Delilah Briarwood (from last week; her page could use some cleanup)
Might be worth starting to work on the mostly empty C3 character relationship pages
Lower priority/might not need a page but rather a subsection:
New theme song (not sure if this was created but I don't see it) - Done (section on Episode Openings, thanks @MoistGoth !)
Kepper dust
Kendra's Flying Lauders
Please let me know what you think! Would this work better as a page rather than a post? Did I miss anything major? Are you interested in doing this as well? Feedback is always appreciated!
I know the animated series doesn't come out until February, but I figure we can't be too prepared for the changes that it will introduce on the wiki. Right now, most of the sources of 'truth' about the world of Exandria cover different time periods and locations, so conflicting information between sources is minimal. Given that these new episodes will be retreading events that have already been laid out in Campaign One, there will almost certainly be conflicts between competing sources of truth. It's the closest thing in CR to a reboot.
Here are some cases from other fandoms that I thought were interesting and potentially useful: characters in Cowboy Bebop (where they have an original animated series and a live-action reboot), and The Witcher (where there are games, the original books, and a live-action series.) Both of these formats link character pages together and make it easy to get from one to the other. Aside from characters, The Witcher has multiple timelines but establishes one as canon. Lord of the Rings has an explicit policy about what counts as canon, and seems to prefer single articles of 'truth' instead of multiple versions.
If the differences between the VM animated series and the VM campaign are truly minimal, we can probably get away with adding new sections to existing articles that clarify which source information is from. They're keeping all the same actors after all and retaining creative control, so it's not a full reboot. But I don't want us to be afraid of creating new pages or sub-pages if it becomes appropriate. And maybe we will be able to anticipate some new templates that might need to be created. Mostly I'm interested in a discussion and your opinions: what if anything do you anticipate changing on here after the animated series is released?
