That's a matter of opinion.
I know Molly was an important person in the Mighty Nein, and Tal put a lot of thought into Molly's character (and his accent), but I think that Caduceus needed to meet the M9. Think about it; without Cad, Uk'otoa would probably be free and/or still tormenting Fjord (not to mention the Star-Razor wouldn't have been refjorged, The corruption of the Blooming Grove would probably continue to get worse. And we all know that Caduceus has just had a positive impact on the party in general.
Simply put, Caduceus is the moral center of the Mighty Nein, and Mollymauk was the passion. Caduceus has allowed each member to follow their own passions while still contributing to the greater good. He’s grown and allowed the others to grow. Molly was one of my favorite characters of this campaign (Long May He Reign!), but he’s done more for the them in death than he did with them.
Am I then only one who thinks Caduceus is secretly evil?
If Cad turns out to be evil, I will be heartbroken and a little bit mad at Taliesin, because Caduceus is mah favorite 😫
I'm just sayin. there has been at least 2 instances of him using Vampiric touch. and now he has cast Harm. There was also the time they were under Nicodranas. where he , without anyone asking, took the severed hand of an admittedly bad guy and cast Decompose for the traumatic intimidation factor.
and I know by mechanical standards there are no "Evil" spells. but if necromancy is inherently evil by most standards, then why wouldn't spells that steal the life force of something else and gives it to the caster also be evil?
"by most standards" is the key point here- as a grave domain cleric, more predisposed and in tune towards the ebb and flow of life and death, such spells make a lot more sense in clay's hands than they would in the hands of the others. i'm not 100% caught up so i'm interested to see how fjord's refjorging changes his inclination towards such manifestations (his pact spectre, the barlgura he dropped on vera etc).
The reason i had to put by most standards is because spells like revivify are necromancy but are treated more like restoration/healing.
Enjoy getting caught up.
SPOILER ALERT: (UNKNOWN EPISODE) Okay to be evil: Molly is dead and Caduceus isn't so- Cad is better. No but seriously, Mollymauk needed to die, it fueled the Mighty Nein to be better, and do better, in his memory. I also have a feeling that Caduceus has been a much larger player in leading the story forward and helping the general good than Mollymauk would have been had he not passed. Now for @Dracoswizard if we were to consider spells of a necromantic nature to be "somewhat" evil based, then Jester's use of Toll the Dead, a necromancy cantrip, would be a strong use of psychological torment against her foes, as well as the use of inflict wounds to deal necromantic damage against her target. This would also place Jester as evil because she's used inflict wounds against Beau during a fist fight, as well, I'm not caught up (Currently watching Episode 74) but I've seen spoilers that the Traveler has been fairly- dishonest with his followers, leading them to a dark fate, yet Jester helps cover his butt, and continues to worship him. I have a feeling that nobody in the Mighty Nein, or even guest stars, are morally black and white. Caduceus is a voice of good, he's a motivating force, and a great healer, emotionally and physically.
Precisely the point I was trying to make. Thank you for putting it better than I did :)
